About us

Founded in 2012, Mekong News Network (MNN) is part of Yunnan International Communication Center for South and Southeast Asia (YICC). As a professional news web portal, it is sponsored by State Council Information Office of the PRC, owned by Yunnan Government Information Office and run by Yunnan Daily Press Group.

We’ve made news available in the seven languages of Chinese, English, Thai, Myanmar, Lao, Cambodian and Vietnamese and grown to be China's sole news website for international communication in the Lancang-Mekong river basin. We offer the latest news updates on China and Yunnan, covering politics, business, culture, travel and more.

MNN has formed a news release system that is multi-lingual, all-media, multi-channel and multi-tiered, spreading news and information in words, pictures, videos, magazines and newspapers. By joining hands with the four monthlies of Mekong (Thai), Champa (Lao), Khmer (Cambodian), and Mingalar (Myanmar), we roll out their digital and audio versions. We run the Lancang-Mekong party(LMp), a multi-lingual WeChat network. Yunnan Gateway also has presence on Facebook and Twitter, in the names of Amazing Yunnan (English), Mekong (Thai), Champa (Lao), Khmer (Cambodian), and Mingalar (Myanmar).

We attach importance to international exchanges. Over the years, we hosted the following activities in succession: “The Ancient Southern Silk Road and Pivot of China’s Opening-UP”, “Piloting Opening-Up in Border Areas”, “International Media Tour in Yunnan”, “China-Myanmar Media Spring Festival Party”, “Seminar for Media Officials and Journalists from Mekong Countries”, “China-Myanmar Media Forum”, and “Release of Top 10 News Stories on Chinese Participation in LMC and the Mekong Sub Regional Cooperation”.
