14th Culture and Art Festival of Countries in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin

The 14th Culture and Art Festival of Countries in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin kicked off in south Yunnan’s Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture on Oct 28.

Chinese artists and their Mekong peers gathered together to renew regional friendship and promote exchanges, with culture and arts as the bond.

The opening gala is themed "Drinking from the Same River, Living as One Family," where distinctive performances from the countries of the Lancang-Mekong river basin were staged in succession, presenting the audience with an artistic feast of multicultural integration.

At the end of the gala, Chinese and the Mekong artists jointly performed the song and dance "Flying Together," expressing the wish that people of the six Lancang-Mekong countries will move forward hand in hand and create a better future together.

Diverse activities will also be staged during this year's festival, including the "One Great River" Xishuangbanna International Photo Exhibition, the "Lancang-Mekong Treasures Carnival," and an "Elegant Gathering: Tea and Music in Harmony." The activities aim to further promote people-to-people exchanges and cultural-tourism cooperation among the countries of the river basin.

The arts festival was founded in 1992, when it was originally titled the "Culture and Arts Festival for Border Areas of the Six Countries in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin." After more than 30 years of development, the cultural festival has emerged as a key platform for the six countries to enhance mutual learning and people-to-people friendship.
