The reportage book is a painstaking work that Chen Hongjin spent many years creating through in-depth visits and interviews. With plain yet affectionate writing, the work fully presents the life trajectory of Zhang Guimei, recipient of the titles "Role Model of the Times" and the "July 1st Medal" in China.
Born in Northeast China, Zhang became a teacher rooted in the mountains of Yunnan, and then served as the principal who founded the country's first completely free girls' high school. With her aspiration and faith, Zhang encouraged more than 1,800 girls to go to universities and work in the cities.
The writer Chen Hongjin, a native of Lijiang’s Yongsheng county, is a member of the China Writers Association. His works have appeared in People's Daily, Xinhua Digest, and other publications. Some of his works have been selected into university textbooks and high school teaching materials.
