Jianchuan has couplet chanting for Spring Festival

A Spring Festival 2026 couplet and poetry cultural event was held in west Yunnan’s Jianchuan county on February 8.

Around 400 primary students joined renowned artists in chanting classic couplets, including the Long Couplet carved on central Yunnan's Daguan Pavilion.

The pupils' clear voice vividly conveyed the majestic view of "Dianchi Lake rushing into sight."

The Long Couplet, composed by Sun Ranweng (1711-1773), a commoner scholar of the Qing Dynasty, is celebrated as the "best long couplet in the world."

In 180 Chinese characters, the couplet has its first half depicting the hundred-mile Dianchi lake and the surrounding natural beauty. The second half tells major events in Yunnan history.
