Cherries in full bloom: Join Malong for a spring getaway
The 2026 Malong Cherry Blossom Season has kicked off at the Cherry Blossom Valley in Malong district, east Yunnan’s Qujing city, offering visitors a wonderful cultural tourism experience in spring.

The opening ceremony began with an exciting drum performance. Dragon and lion dance teams leaped and twirled, their energetic performances blending with the rhythmic drums and cheers from the audience.
"Flower Goddesses" dressed in Hanfu gracefully walked through the venue. The twelve ladies represent flowers from each of the twelve months of the year, using blossoms as symbols to demonstrate the changing beauty of the seasons through their elegant presence.
Several folk songs were also performed, some loud and clear and some soft and melodious. They tell stories about the local culture and lifestyle.

After the ceremony, a lively parade moved through Malong's main streets. People from different ethnic groups wore traditional costumes, singing and dancing.
Near the food street, tempting aromas filled the air. Visitors sat down and enjoyed lamb hot pot, lamb skewers, fried potatoes and other local dishes.
Finally, visitors strolled through the bustling food street and entered Shenjiashan Cherry Blossom Valley, where thousands of cherry trees were in full bloom. They stopped to take photos and strolled among the flowers, their laughter echoing through the sea of blossom.

A series of events will run until 15 March. During this period, various activities will take place, including the Second Qujing Dragon and Lion Dance Competition, a friendly volleyball tournament, a motocross race, and a mountain equestrian show. These events will provide visitors with unique and exciting experiences.
