Int’l forum on poverty & development to open in Nujiang

The roaring Nujiang-Salween River has witnessed the miraculous transformation from in-depth poverty to poverty alleviation in northwest Yunnan’s Nujiang, a prefecture nestled in the Hengduan Mountains.

Now, the prefecture is once again put under global spotlight as the 2025 International Forum on Poverty Governance and Global Development (Nujiang) will take place from March 28 to 30.

Date & Venue

The forum will be held in northwest Yunnan’s Nujiang Lisu autonomous prefecture from March 28 to 30, 2025.

Media tour

From March 25 to 28, international journalists will visit Laomudeng village, Bingzhongluo town and other locations in Nujiang, looking into local practices in poverty alleviation and rural revitalization.

Nujiang experience shines across the globe

In 2023, the Nujiang forum adopted the theme "New Blueprint for Rural Revitalization and Exciting Opportunities for Global Development," capturing worldwide attention.

The forum not only provided a platform for dialogue between Chinese and international guests but also released a research report on China’s poverty alleviation and rural revitalization efforts.

Additionally, it launched a research project on empowering the high-quality development of Nujiang prefecture through digital technology, offering invaluable Chinese wisdom and experience to the world.

Global voices on poverty reduction and future growth

Maria Gustava, Ambassador of Mozambique to China, praised China’s practices in leveraging technology to sustain achievements on poverty alleviation and drive rural revitalization. She hoped to learn from China’s experience by introducing modern technologies to enhance Mozambique’s agricultural productivity.

Fernando Lugris, Ambassador of Uruguay to China, noted the critical role of free trade, environmental protection, and digitalization in poverty reduction and global development. He expressed eagerness to deepen collaboration with China to jointly advance the global digital economy.

Wang Haihuai, Deputy Party Secretary and General Manager of China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC), reflected on CCCC’s 28-year partnership with Nujiang in poverty alleviation and pledged continued support for Nujiang’s rural revitalization through six key initiatives.

Chen Yao, Head of Brand Communications and Party Committee’s Publicity Department at Ping An of China, shared Ping An’s innovative practices in digital-driven rural revitalization, such as launching satellites and establishing a ground-space interactive system. These have enabled precision management of Nujiang’s coffee plantations.

Zhang Yuanjie, Associate Research Fellow at the Rural Development Institute of Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences, explored the vital role of rural cultural development in bridging poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, while outlining challenges and future directions for advancing rural civilization in Yunnan.
