Yunnan presents 178 awards to scientists
The Yunnan Science and Technology Awarding Conference was held on August 22 in central Yunnan’s Kunming city, where a total of 178 awards on natural science, technological invention and sci-tech progress, were presented to international scientists.

Paleontologist Zhang Xiguang from Yunnan University was honored with the 2024 outstanding contribution award, while Dutch scientist Sijun Zheng from the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences was granted the international sci-tech cooperation award.
Wang Ning, secretary of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee, presented the award to Zhang and delivered a speech.

Wang said that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Yunnan has implemented the decisions made by the CPC Central Committee, achieving significant progress in building an innovative Yunnan and enhancing the province’s capabilities in scientific and technological innovation.
In the future, Yunnan will focus on cultivating innovative talents and implementing provincial talent-introduction programs, Wang added. “Attracting talents through career opportunities, Yunnan will enable talents to achieve success and support young talents in taking on key roles.”

Wang stressed that Yunnan will expand open cooperation in science and technology, strengthen the Tengchong Scientists Forum, expand international sci-tech exchanges, and make Yunnan province a new height for scientific innovation.
