The Jizi reservoir in northwest Yunnan’s Lijiang city is built up in 1957.

To make way for the construction of the Jizi reservoir in Yulong Naxi autonomous county, northwest Yunnan’s Lijiang city, 80 households of villagers were relocated from their ancestral homes in 1957, and they were resettled across 10 villager groups in the surrounding areas.

Since 2006, local resettlement departments have secured projects to assist the relocated, investing a total of 32.3 million yuan in growing economic plants like medicinal herbs and building up new country roads for the relocated.

Now the relocated have grown to be 181 households, and they are leading a better life. "The roads in the village have been improved, and our life is much better than before," said He Enqiang, a relocated villager, adding his families’ per capita income reached 20,000 yuan last year.
