First batch of Bangladeshi patients arrive in Yunnan
The first batch of Bangladeshi patients reached central Yunnan’s Kunming city for medical treatment on March 10, with the help of the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh. The 31-member delegation to China also comprised the patients’ families, doctors, travel agents, and journalists.
The 14 patients, three of whom were children with congenital heart disease, will undergo medical check-ups and receive treatment in Kunming, while the Bangladeshi travel agents and journalists will explore opportunities in Yunnan’s medical tourism sector during their visit.
Yunnan province held a welcome event at Kunming Airport. The delegation was greeted by Bangladeshi Ambassador to China Nazmul Islam, Bangladesh’s consul general to Kunming Md Khaled, along with those from Yunnan Foreign Affairs Office, Yunnan Health Commission, and Yunnan medical institutions.
Nazmul Islam said that Yunnan serves as a vital gateway for Bangladesh to access China and it is an ideal destination for Bangladeshis seeking overseas medical and wellness services. He emphasized that this inaugural delegation has pioneered medical tourism cooperation between Bangladesh and China, particularly with Yunnan.
The Bangladeshi ambassador thanked the province for its professional support and meticulous arrangements. He expressed hope for deeper bilateral exchanges and expanded collaboration as the two nations approach their 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.
