Southern Messengers · Song of Youth: Guizhou girl brings soybean dyeing to life

Zhang Tingting, a young girl from southwest China’s Guizhou province, retreated to an ancient village to revive soybean dyeing.

Also called print dyeing, the art has been a millennia-old intangible cultural heritage in Longjing village, the province’s Guiyang city.

Born in the 1990s, Zhang brought the nearly lost art back to life with soybean flour and indigo leaves.
