Great sounds, stunning sights, endless fun! The 2025 Lancang-Mekong Audiovisual Week (LMAW) is around the corner. First, let's look at some moments of the 2024 LMAW.

With the theme of “Broadcast Lancang-Mekong for a Shared Future”, the 2025 LMAW will be held in conjunction with the 7th Lancang-Mekong International Film Week (LMIFW), the 9th China-South Asia Exposition, and the Annual Meeting of the South and Souteast Asian Media Network.

For the first time, the LMAW and the LMIFW will share the opening ceremony, seminars, field visits, and the closing event. Here are the 7 highlights of the 2025 LMAW.

 

The LMAW “quality merchants” live streaming session  

The Live Streaming Session with Ambassadors and Consuls to China of the 9th China-South Asia Expo & the LMAW “Quality Merchants” Live Streaming Session will be launched at the expo main venue on June 20, together with other activities.

The international diplomats and Gen Z youth will team up as live streamers to promote their cultures and Yunnan’s fine products.

The live streamers at expo main venue will join hands with their peers at the sub-venues across 16 Yunnan cities and prefectures in presenting local specialties like Wenshan notoginsen and Dounan fresh flowers.

The "Colorful Yunnan" e-commerce vouchers worth 70 million yuan will be handed out to boost sales of Yunnan products.

 

The Lancang-Mekong short video show by Gen Z

15 young vloggers from south and southeast Asian countries will embark on a 7-day field tour along the China-Laos Railway, filming at Wangjiaying Container Terminal, Mohan Land Port and Dadugang Tea Plantation.

An online short-video contest for south/southeast Asian young makers will collect over 200 multilingual videos showcasing Yunnan's charm.

Winners will be awarded at the 7th LMIFW.

 

The LMAW “premium broadcast” program

More than 100 audiovisual works with diverse folk customs will be collected from south/southeast Asian mainstream media, global film studios and Yunnan's media centers.

Expert dubbing teams and international translators will bridge the cultural gaps.

The audiovisual works will be displayed via digital media platforms from June to December 2025 for immersive Lancang-Mekong storytelling.

 

The LMAW "excellent communication" initiative

Yunnan's Top 10 International Communication Cases will be selected, and the cases will cover audiovisual-content creation, cross-cultural event planning, and outstanding international media organizations.

The chosen cases will be compiled into a book to establish replicable models for global communication.

 

The LMAW "excellent learning" program

The learning sessions will be open to journalists, anchors, media professionals, and cultural officials from the south and southeast Asian countries, with expert instructors from Lancang-Mekong Neighbor Communication Institute and Communication University of China.

The learning topics will involve "Optimization Guide for Audiovisual Production", "AI Fact-Checking: Debunking Fake News", "Audiovisual AI: From Production to Viral Hits", "Lancang-Mekong in Plays" and "Our Shared Lancang-Mekong DNA".

The participants will visit Yunnan’s rural tourism hubs for producing short films.

The learners can discuss with Mekong experts and Yunnan media professionals, building a Lancang-Mekong media circle of friends.

 

The "Lancang-Mekong eyes on Yunnan" media tour

The 5-day media tour will be attended by journalists, media officials, and communication professionals from south/southeast Asian countries, under the theme "discovering Yunnan fragrance" in fruit, coffee, flower, lakes and alleys.

The attendees will look into Yunnan's street life, cultural traditions, youth innovation and consumptive vibe, experiencing the many-splendored Yunnan life in person. They will also get to know provincial ethnic cultures and development achievements.

 

The LMAW "excellent translation" program

Multiple excellent Chinese TV dramas, documentaries, animations and short films will be translated into English, or Mekong languages. They are expected to improve international communication in the region.
