New species to meet visitors during May Day holiday
Some new species have arrived at Yunnan Wildlife Park! During the May Day holiday, 11 squirrel monkeys will make their debut, and the park’s new area for great hornbills will open to the public.
Native to South America, squirrel monkeys love eating fruits and small insects. They weigh between 750 to 1,100 grams, but their brain-to-body weight ratio is an impressive 1:17, much higher than the 1:35 ratio of humans.
The great hornbill, a first-class protected wildlife species in China, can be found in western and southwestern Yunnan. As life-long lovers, the hornbills mostly inhabit forests below 1,500 meters in elevation.
The newly built exhibition area not only provides a comfortable living environment for these hornbills but also enhances visitors’ understanding of this rare bird species.
