Lijiang's Dayan Naxi Ancient Music Association held its 40th-anniversary concert at the Ankang Concert Hall of Yunnan Arts University, central Yunnan’s Kunming city, on November 9.

As the ancient instruments resonated, the elegant melodies went beyond time, quietly narrating the history and heritage of the Naxi music. Teachers and students in the university immersed themselves in the artistic charm of thousand-year-old musical traditions.

The Naxi ancient music, which blends the musical elements of Tang and Song dynasties’ poetry, is renowned as a "living fossil of music." It continues to thrive in the northwest Yunnan and was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008.

Wen Jia, host of the Naxi Ancient Music Orchestra, said that they have performed in multiple countries, attracting an audience of over 5 million. This show in Kunming aims to bring the millennia-old music to university teachers and students.
