Lijiang develops flower economy

Rhododendrons and other flowers have recently created a refreshing spectacle at the Tinghua Valley scenic area in northwest Yunnan’s Lijiang city. Tourists flocked to the area to admire the blossoms and enjoy the spring sight.

“The Tinghua Valley boasts a stunning variety of flowers—corn poppies, roses, wisteria, and more. They’re utterly captivating,” said Guo Chijie, a tourist from Guangdong.

 

Rhododendrons are in full bloom at the Tinghua Valley scenic area in northwest Yunnan’s Lijiang city. 

To date, Tinghua Valley has welcomed over 300,000 visitors, generating a revenue of 14 million yuan. It has also provided a steady job for more than 40 villagers in surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, the Lijiang Modern Flower Industrial Park has been bustling with visitors. They came either to explore the area, learn flower-arranging techniques, or take home roses and calla lilies.

In smart greenhouses, educational tour groups observed flower cultivation steps up close, getting to know the growth and ecological value of various blooms.

“Today, I made flower pastries by hand and learned to craft traditional sachets. It was so much fun!” said He Yutong, a student at the city’s Gucheng district.
