According to customs data, in the first half of 2024, Yunnan imported 151,000 tons of durians, up 27.6% year-on-year; the import value reached 5.03 billion yuan, up 24.3% year-on-year.

Before the opening of the China-Laos Railway, Yunnan’s durian import share in the national market accounted for 7.7%, ranking fifth nationwide. In 2022, the first year after the railway’s opening, Yunnan’s durian import share rose to 14.4% and became the second-largest importer in the country.

In recent years, Yunnan has actively promoted the development of logistics and trade along the China-Laos Railway, strengthening cooperation with the Yangtze River Delta, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and Chengdu-Chongqing area, and promoting the operation of the China-Laos-Thailand international railway refrigerated container train. The “golden route” role of the China-Laos Railway continues to be highlighted.

Taking advantage of its geographical location, south Yunnan’s Hekou has become one of the hottest durian import sites in China.

Hekou Port has also established a green channel for fresh goods and a dedicated “Belt and Road Initiative” channel, significantly reducing the average customs clearance time and attracting a large number of durian trading companies to gather.
