Torch festival celebrated in Chuxiong, SW China

The 2024 Yi Torch Festival kicked off in Chuxiong Yi autonomous prefecture, southwest China's Yunnan province, on July 27. Tens of thousands of tourists and locals gathered at the Sun Calendar Cultural Garden Torch Square in Chuxiong city to celebrate the festival with songs and dances.

The Torch Festival is one of the important traditional festivals of the Yi people and is listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative project catalogs.

Beginning annually on the 24th day of the sixth lunar month, the festival is known as the “oriental carnival”, and it lasts for three days and three nights.

The 2024 Yi Torch Festival in Chuxiong also features summer retreat tours, study tours, sightseeing tours and festival tours, offering some 120 exciting activities.
