Bogale blood clam supply to Yangon market increases in August
About 75,000 visses of blood clam from Bogalay Township, Ayeyawady Region, were supplied to the Yangon market in August, which increases from 54,000 visses registered in July, said Daw Le Le Win, a fishery depot owner in Bogalay Township.
“The supply grew remarkably in August. The majority of the fisheries from Ayeyawady Region are sent to Yangon. The blood clam has strong domestic demand. Local fisheries products, including blood clam, are highly purchased in Yangon this month”, she elaborated.
This business is thriving, allowing fishermen, hard labourers and traders to earn well.
Blood clam farming business is incredibly trendy in the 2017-2018 financial year. The capacity of a clam farm is estimated at 30,000 clams. When the blood clams reach one kilo with less than 100 calms, it’s the right size to deliver them to market. There are around 100 clam farming ponds in Taninthayi Region, said Daw Ni Ni engaged in blood clam farming in Yaykantaung village tract, Kyunsu Township, Taninthayi Region
The blood clam has two shells. Some called them the blood cockles. The residents in Taninthayi widely called them Gin. The blood clam from Taninthayi Region is primarily exported to Thailand, generating foreign earnings and creating jobs for the local community.
