Yunnan coffee exports up by 371% year on year

Yunnan province exported some 30,000 tons of coffee beans in the first three quarters of 2024, increasing by 371% year on year, said local customs authority.

The Yunnan beans were sold to more than 40 countries and regions around the world, making Yunnan the top coffee exporter among Chinese provinces, according to statistics at the Kunming Customs.

"In the past three quarters, our export volume has exceeded 1,800 tons, an increase of nearly four times over last year," said Zhou Zhiyan, head of the Beigui Coffee Company's plantation in southwest Yunnan’s Pu'er city.

Pu'er is city of coffee fragrance, with its coffee products highly welcomed by consumers in China and beyond. In the past three quarters, Pu'er exported 18,000 tons of coffee, a year-on-year increase of 360%.

In response, officers at Kunming Customs’ branch in Pu’er visited the coffee fields and gave on-site guidance in planting, picking, processing, packaging, shipping and storage.

Baoshan city is also a major coffee producer in Yunnan. From January to September, the city exported 2,158 tons of coffee beans, up 184% year on year.

"This is the our first China-ASEAN certificate of origin for coffee export. With the certificate, we can enjoy a tax reduction of about 38,000 yuan when exporting these coffee beans to Vietnam," said Yang Wenzhong, head of the Yishu Coffee Company in Baoshan.

Over the past nine months, Kunming Customs offered 106 certificates of origin to coffee exporters in Yunnan province, allowing them to enjoy a tariff reduction of 1.97 million yuan from the importing countries.
