The 5th Lancang-Mekong Audiovisual Week (LMAW) will take place from June 17 to 22 in Kunming, Yuxi city, and other locations in Yunnan province, according to a press conference on June 11.

The event is jointly hosted by the National Radio and Television Administration of China, the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam, and the People’s Government of Yunnan Province.

Themed “shared landscapes, splendid heritages”, the 5th LMAW aims to enhance mutual understanding and trust among the peoples of China and South and Southeast Asian countries by showcasing their unique intangible cultural heritages. It also seeks to preserve, innovate, and develop the civilizations of these countries through cooperation.

The 5th LMAW will feature six key activities: the opening ceremony and gala, the mutual screening of LMC and South Asian countries’ excellent programs, the Generation Z short video creation camp (season 3) and “Hi, China Yunnan” tour, the audiovisual works release, the “Beautiful China – A Many-Splendored Life in Yunnan” media tour, and the seeing China: global screen in Vietnam.

These activities will highlight the achievements of Lancang-Mekong audiovisual cooperation and further promote audiovisual exchanges and cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong region, contributing to the accelerated construction of an Asian community with a shared future.

The Lancang-Mekong countries are geographically close and culturally connected, with outstanding radio and television works serving as a golden bridge to enhance mutual understanding among their peoples.

Since its establishment in 2020, the LMAW has seen 23 series of activities, attended by 50 diplomats, government officials, and media executives from Mekong countries. More than 40 leading international media outlets have engaged in exchange and dialogue activities.

The LMAW has seen a total of 143 outstanding audiovisual works, comprising 277 episodes, broadcast on over 60 regional media platforms. It has become an increasingly important platform for media cooperation and cultural exchange among the Lancang-Mekong countries.

The LMAW is also mentioned in the 2023 Chinese white paper of Jointly Building the Belt and Road: A Great Practice of Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind, as well as in the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Five-Year Action Plan (2023-2027) issued at the 4th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Leaders' Meeting.
