Pack up the taste of Lijiang Old Town: coffee and bread
In the heart of Lijiang Old Town, Tingke Bakery has become a beloved haven for the city’s younger crowd. Since its opening in 2012, this cozy spot has charmed locals and visitors alike with its irresistible breads, desserts, coffee, and light meals—a perfect retreat for those seeking a slice of comfort in their day.
The story of Tingke begins with its owner, Dao Dao, a Kunming native and now a proud “Lijiang daughter-in-law.” Before moving to Lijiang, she and her partner lived in the fast-paced world of Shanghai, navigating the city’s hustle while chasing their dreams. Though their time there was filled with joy, the pull of their home province eventually won out.
Returning to Lijiang felt like hitting pause on life’s rush. The slow rhythms of the small town offered a stark contrast to city living, bringing a sense of ease and fulfillment. Tingke became a reflection of this lifestyle—a place where the scent of freshly brewed coffee and warmly baked bread invites passersby to linger and relax.
Tingke is more than just a bakery; it’s an experience. The freshly baked loaves and French-style desserts are not only delicious but also a feast for the eyes, making them a favorite for social media posts. Each cup of coffee offers a simple yet rich taste that soothes the palate and refreshes the spirit.
Whether you’re sitting inside or on the terrace, the views of clouds drifting or people passing by create a serene backdrop for any visit. It’s the perfect spot to unwind, whether you’re savoring a sweet treat or simply enjoying the moment.
Over the years, Tingke has welcomed countless visitors, but one stood out in Dao Dao’s memory: a French guest who frequented the bakery every afternoon for two weeks. His order was always the same—a cup of coffee and a dessert or bread—and not once did he miss a day. His quiet appreciation for the flavors and atmosphere left a lasting impression, highlighting the universal appeal of Tingke’s simple yet heartfelt offerings.
Tingke Bakery captures the essence of Lijiang—a place where time slows down, and simple pleasures take center stage. Here, every bite of bread and sip of coffee tells a story of warmth, comfort, and the beauty of savoring life’s little moments.
