Migratory birds have returned to Lijiang
Winter in Lijiang lacks the biting chill of the north, making it a perfect haven for its annual northern visitors. Every year, migratory birds—black storks, grey cranes, teals, shovelers, egrets, herons, moorhens, coots, gulls, mallards, and geese—embark on long journeys across mountains and seas to reach Lijiang, seeking a warm refuge for the season.
These feathered travelers bring life and vibrancy to Lijiang’s Lashihai Wetland, transforming it into a paradise for birdwatchers and nature lovers. The birds roam the wetlands, soar through the skies, and glide gracefully across the lake's surface, sometimes in large flocks, other times alone, like ethereal spirits lingering on Earth.
Where to find these winter guests? To catch a glimpse of these enchanting creatures, head north along the Ring Lake Road to two recommended spots:Dayu Village and Lashihai Wetland Park. Both offer stunning views and opportunities to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature.
Spend an afternoon by Lashihai is no rush here. Grab a cup of coffee, pair it with a bowl of fried potatoes or cold jelly noodles, and bask in the sun by the roadside. Even just staring at the shimmering water of Lashihai, watching the sunlight dance on its surface, can fill an entire afternoon with peace and contentment.
In the distance, you’ll see flocks of migratory birds frolicking and chasing each other across the lake, adding a lively rhythm to the tranquil scenery.
The migratory birds have arrived, bringing with them the promise of a vibrant and serene winter in Lijiang. So, what’s keeping you from joining them?
