Chinese time-honored brands attract the young
Statistics show that there are currently 1,455 national time-honored brands and over 3,000 provincial ones in China. On Beijing's Qianmen Street, young people even line up for a 9-yuan tea-flavored ice cream. During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, this store which was founded in 1887 sold an average of 4,000 ice creams per day.
Crossover cooperation, joint design, online sale, new image creation are means that adopted by many time-honored brands, as many businesses today are driven by e-commerce platforms and live streaming sales.
A report shows that in 2023, the number of time-honored brand merchants earning income on Douyin increased by 89% year-on-year, and the number of purchasing users grew by 38%. In the past year, orders for time-honored brands on the Meituan platform rose by 25.6% year-on-year.
Post-90s consumer Huang Qingmiao said, "Thinking about using the same items as people did over a hundred years ago, somehow, gives me a profound sense of connection."
