China-South Asia: China is the home of my heart
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. In this significant year, I find myself reflecting on my experiences. In 2016, I received a full scholarship from the Confucius Institute to study at Beijing Normal University, marking the beginning of my intertwined journey with China. Here, I not only gained knowledge but also deepened my understanding of China’s profound culture and witnessed its rapid development across various fields.

When I first arrived in China as an international student, my understanding of the country was shaped mainly by textbooks and the internet. However, the moment I stepped into Beijing, I was captivated by the harmonious blend of ancient and modern that the city offers. The grandeur of the Forbidden City and the solemnity of Tiananmen Square deepened my appreciation for the rich heritage of Chinese culture. Meanwhile, on campus, I experienced the vibrancy of China’s younger generation. Engaging with classmates from diverse regions allowed me to witness the collision and fusion of cultures, further igniting my love for this remarkable land.
Throughout my studies, I not only mastered the Chinese language but also gained profound insights into China’s history and philosophy. I developed a strong interest in Confucianism and Taoist culture, which not only shape the values of the Chinese people but have also significantly influenced my own worldview. Guided by my teachers, I learned to embrace the philosophy of “harmony in diversity” and how to find common ground in a multicultural environment—skills that will greatly benefit my future life and career.

Over the years of studying and living in China, I have witnessed the country’s remarkable progress in technology, economy, and culture. In particular, China’s achievements in technological innovation in recent years have been impressive. From the rapid development of high-speed rail to the widespread application of artificial intelligence, the country’s technological advancement continuously reaches new heights. The prevalence of shared bicycles, the popularity of mobile payment, and the rollout of 5G networks are tangible changes I experience in my daily life. These innovations not only change people’s lifestyles but also enhance overall societal efficiency.
China’s economic development has also left a strong impression on me. When I first arrived, many areas were still building their infrastructure, but today, modern urban landscapes are ubiquitous. From first-tier cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen to second- and third-tier cities, the economic vitality is palpable, evoking a sense of hope and dynamism. The Belt and Road Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping has further expanded China’s influence globally, promoting connectivity in the world economy.

Culturally, I have experienced the diversity and inclusiveness of China. During Chinese traditional festivals, I actively participate in local celebrations, enjoying traditional foods like rice cakes, dumplings, and mooncakes, immersing myself in the festive atmosphere. At the same time, the rapid development of contemporary culture has revealed the creativity of the younger generation. From internet literature to pop music, Chinese youth are crafting their own cultural narratives with their talent and passion.
Through my journey in China, I have felt the nation’s changes and growth profoundly. China is not only where I study and live but also a place that resonates with my soul. My experiences over the past few years have deepened my understanding of China and broadened my perspective. Looking ahead, I am eager to continue exploring this land, witnessing China’s emergence on the global stage, and contributing to the cultural exchange between China and Nepal.
