The 12th Culture and Art Festival for Countries in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin is going on in south Yunnan’s Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture from October 1 to 3 this year, coinciding with the week-long National Day holiday that marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of People’s Republic of China. On this special occasion, we roll out some short videos collectively called “Mekong in plays”.
The fourth one is about Quan Ho, a traditional folk music genre in northern Vietnam.
Quan Ho is performed by teams of male and female singers who exchange lyrics and melodies. When the Quan Ho folk song is sung with a puppet, it could mean that the singer is trying to identify a lover.
