American Sherry: Chinese culture runs deeper than it appears

U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on May 13, kicking off his visit to China. Just before his trip, Sherry Zhu, a TikTok influencer from the U.S. and the creator of the trending hashtag “BecomingChinese,” traveled to Yunnan for a week. “Now that I’ve come to China, especially here in Yunnan, I realized Chinese culture runs much deeper than it appears on the surface. Even the small, seemingly trivial moments of daily life carry the meaning I never imagined before,” said Sherry. Through the window of Yunnan, Sherry saw a more vibrant and colorful China. In this historic and landmark year for China-U.S. relations, people-to-people exchanges between the two side carry special significance.
