The Water-Splashing Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals for ethnic minorities in Southwest China. It is also celebrated in the Mekong countries like Laos, where it is known as the Songkran Festival.

Splashes of clear water carry simple yet heartfelt wishes. Water links the people of China and Laos, and with it, they exchange hopes for a happy life.

Andrés from Colombia and Meilin from Laos recently met in Xishuangbanna, southwest China's Yunnan province, and they joined this "carnival of water." Amid laughter, they extended blessings to each other and nurtured friendship.
