The 5th Yunnan Provincial Conference on Reading opens in Dali prefecture on April 20.

Themed "reading for all and a province of book aroma," this year's event is sponsored by the Publicity Department of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee and the Dali Prefectural Government.

At the opening ceremony, the list of Yunnan's most popular books in 2025 was released, and letters of appointment were presented to Yunnan reading promoters, including Bai Zhongcai, Lyu Yi, Hu Qiuyan, You Fan, Xie Hongfen, and others.

Over the years, Yunnan has built up 15,328 rural libraries that cover all administrative villages. It has also established 15 borderland bookstores and 4 overseas Chinese libraries. As of October 2025, the province had organized over 150,000 reading activities.

This reading event will run until April 26. The 16 prefectures and cities across Yunnan will hold sideline events such as book fairs for the public. Bilingual reading activities will be carried out at China-Myanmar border gates and international flights.
