US-Iran talks may resume in Islamabad this week

The US and Iran are likely to resume stalled talks in Islamabad as early as Thursday, according to highly credible sources, although no official confirmation has been issued.

According to the sources, expert-level contact between the two sides never ceased entirely, continuing quietly even after the main delegations left Pakistan. Regional stakeholders, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman, are believed to be actively facilitating a return to dialogue, with additional input from China.

The timing is notable. Momentum towards resuming talks appears to have accelerated following rising tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, prompting renewed diplomatic coordination across the region.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s prime minister is expected to travel to Riyadh for an unscheduled meeting with Prince Mohammed bin Salman as security developments continue to unfold.

The signals suggest that, although formal negotiations may have stalled, diplomacy has remained active behind the scenes and is now being brought back into the open.
